The term "abortion" actually refers to any premature expulsion of a human foetus, whether naturally spontaneous, as in a miscarriage, or artificially induced, as in a surgical or chemical abortion. Today, the most common usage of the term "abortion" applies to artificially induced abortion.

While there is a surplus of families waiting several years to adopt a child into their home, there are women today being convinced that abortion or child rearing are their only choices. It is important that women in crisis situations are presented with the life-giving choice of adoption and are informed of the resources and support available to them.
